Zalman ZM-RS6F
Zalman are better known for their noiseless computer parts than their headsets, but the Zalman ZM-RS6F headphones are a surprisingly high quality gaming headset. One great feature of the ZM-RS6F is that they fold in on themselves, making it easy to travel and store them. The major selling point of the Zalman ZM-RS6F’s are that they are true 5.1 surround sound at an affordable cost. Naturally you’ll need a sound card or motherboard to support the 3 separate inputs (front, rear and center/ subwoofer) – however most modern motherboards have these. As they’re not using virtual surround sound, you get absolute true directional sound – meaning you can identify footsteps, shooting, grenades and other subtle sounds easily.
There are a couple of downfalls to the Zalman ZM-RS6F though, firstly, they don’t have an inbuilt microphone, however they are available with a clip on microphone (clips onto the cable) which can also be bought separately. The second downfall is that they don’t have a remote to adjust volume and microphone settings. If your keyboard has sound control this is of little consequence, but if it doesn’t it might be a bit inconvenient.
The earcups on the Zalman ZM-RS6F are somewhat comfortable, however aren’t as big as some of the other gaming headsets. After a few hours you’ll probably find yourself taking them off for a bit to give your ears a break.
Overall the Zalman ZM-RS6F provide a high quality, truly directional 5.1 surround sound experience and are great in game. Unfortunately, they aren’t the most comfortable headset around, however for their price their performance is unmatched.
